This morning I did a whole-system (data and databases) backup of the NAS. Then I did a safe powerdown, removed the disks and carefully vacuumed inside the carriage. Then I (equally carefully) vacuumed the disks, reinserted them, powered up, and did a full system check.
Was it worth it?
Absolutely it was. The NAS doesn’t sit in a dust-free datacentre (ah, how I remember what those were like), so it’s quite amazing how much dust gets sucked into the carriage by the twin superpower fans on the back of the device.
Does it make any difference though?
Helps prevent it from overheating, I s’pose.
Can you do mine?
