Working up a sweat

The first week of January and the car park of the David Lloyd sports centre is full up.

Four weeks ago there were 9 cars there when I drove past. Last night there were over 900.

Ah, the profitable (for David Lloyd) sight of festively guilty consciences being salved.

  1. Same stuff at the gym on campus. Two first weeks of the quarter? Packed. I don’t even try to go for a swim because I know I won’t have a lane to myself (and I dislike sharing my lane). Then it gets a bit better. Plenty of people, but not packed to the point where the parking lot seems as full as on a game day. Then arrive the midterms. And there it goes pretty empty… I let you imagine finals week!

  2. Give it two weeks and there’ll be parking spaces galore. Maybe even some space for dogging (just taking opportunity to use my new word – oh the blogosphere is an educational place!)

  3. Had you not heard of dogging before young Mya? It’s not an interweb word, it’s been around in general parlance for about a decade. I get a lot of google hits for some reason – people searching on ‘dogging, worcestershire’. So no, no kennels involved. Apparently. 🙂

  4. No I hadn’t. And I’m not that young, either. Spouse has heard of it though – I’m not sure if that’s good or not. Don’t think I’ll be giving it a try, everybody knows everybody’s cars around here!
