I heard this phrase on the radio the other day – and it was delivered without any degree of cynicism:
“Bryan Adams classic…”
Have you got an oxymoron you’d like to share?

A few of my favourites:
Sleeping like a baby, (I mean, really…?)
Childhood innocence, (see above)
Cat-like reflexes, (actually, this only works in the case of my, unnaturally relaxed, moggies)
Merry Christmas, (Bah, humbug)
McDonald’s Happy meal,
Teenage angst,
and the age-old classic, probably the most oxymoronic phrase in the history of civilisation;
Military Intelligence.
Dudius: One of the military intelligence planners (yes, really!) I worked with in the combat operations centre at NATO 4 Wing 2nd Allied Tactical Air Force was named Dave Petrie. Whenever his phone rang he’d pick up the handset and drawl in a very ‘lights on but no-one’s home’ manner “Duhhhh, intelligence speaking”. Well, it made us laugh. But I guess we were pretty simple too. 🙂
I’ve always liked handgun safety and honest crook as oxymorons but my favourite one of all is Intelligent Design. I mean given how stupid it is.
Police Officer gets me. Half of them wouldn’t be awarded a commission in the TA let alone in the real Forces. And I’d just like to say a big friendly ‘hello’ to any police officers who may be looking in…
🙂
