I’ve decided that I need paid help; the admin demands are killing what little time I have available.
So this morning on the way in I began concocting an advert for a part-time book keeping/administrative person; maybe five hours a week.
They’ll have to work from (their) home but I’ll provide him/her with the hardware, software etc.
I’ve just done a deal with Dell for a special build Notebook which will be delivered next week; the idea is that I’ll transfer the memory-hungry applications to the new kit and the old one will just run the office applications.
This person’s duties are likely to include:
Admin:
* collecting post from the sorting office
* opening, sorting, filing and dealing with the (small amount of) correspondence
Book-keeping:
* generating invoices
* checking payments received
* preparing VAT returns
* AOB
Now then…
I’ve tried to canvass the market and I’m surprised at the results, so let me ask…
What would you think would be a reasonable hourly rate?

I’d be surprised if you get many at much under £20 an hour.

if you include bookeeping on the advert i think it will cost you more money because people generally train to do that

I would have said £10 an hour until you got to the bit about VAT returns, when I started agreeing with Gumpher.

maybe £12 an hour but the VAT stuff makes me think maybe a bit more
Bloody Hell! I’ve been ripped off. I did all that shit for our (Small) Company for years. No I don’t want the job. I hated that bit.
Sounds to me like two jobs, Bren. One post outsourced to your friendly local bookkeeper/small-time accountant who would do your VAT and one post for your office duties.
It might even work out cheaper as two roles?
