We went to Avebury today.
To shoot video.
Because a bunch of 4,500-year old rocks make excellent video subjects, obv.

Well…
One 4,500-year old rock and two mentals made good video subjects.
Why?
I have this idea of shooting three or four short, promotional videos for the podcast.
I’ve done a bunch of run-throughs, in the studio, which just didn’t work very well.
I had a problem of content which was solved with a bit of imagination; it was a problem because, when you think about it, two people sitting either side of a studio console either listening to music, or talking about stuff, doesn’t make for instantly engaging video.
And video should be engaging.
I also ran up against a problem of lighting. It seemed that no matter how much candlepower I put in to the studio, it was insufficient to produce a quality HD video.
Everything looked grainy.
I considered filming in black and white, in an attempt to work around the grainy problem, but then wondered if the video actually *needed* to be filmed in the studio.
And so, today, while we were on our annual New Year’s Day random excursion, I thought we could have a crack at filming some scenes.
Now, a bunch of hours later – and back home, watching Independence Day – I’ve built a library of sixteen individual scenes equal to 4m 40s of video.
I’ll look at it all again tomorrow, when my head is less cluttered.
I want to edit the film down to about 2m 30s/2m 45s, but that’s not where it ends; soundtrack!
When I started planning this video project, I was going to use one audio track, a piece of music, as the sound-bed. Now my thinking has changed.
The more I’ve thought about this the more I think that one track would be wrong.
Logic tells me that it would be better to use a compilation of track introductions; intros give me an opportunity to display greater breadth and depth than I would have, if I used just one track.
My head tells me that intros would give me an opportunity to showcase a wider range of the styles of music that the show plays, rather than just one track/musical style.
So, this time tomorrow evening I might have my hands on the first prototype promo video for This Reality Podcast.
Erm.
Would any advertising/marketing people like to check my logic?
You are so lucky to live in a part of the world with many, many places of interest within easy travel. There are interesting places around here, but very few I’m not already incredibly familiar with.
The good thing with the UK, as you know, is that it is a relatively compact place with a mix of history from different cultures. The bad thing with the UK, as you know, is that it is a relatively compact place.
But you’ve got squillions of years of cross-culture history to pick from too. And you have the added bonus of it not being so compact!
