Why would a woman completely change the pattern and style of her dress?
Every working day for the last eight months she’s worn a long (floor-length) skirt; she has a collection of them.
Today she’s wearing a skirt, but one which hangs three inches above the knee.
It’s nice to see that she has knees.
But why the change?
Any insights?

(2) She is in love
(3) It’s springtime!
(4) She ditched her lousy boyfriend/husband/partner
(5) She’s feeling more confident – any of the above reasons being a justification for this one
or
(6) She’s done with her laser hair removal and can let light (and people’s gaze) touch her legs again
(7)She no longer has to wear leg braces.
(8)Her house burned down and this was all the Salvation Army had to offer.
(9)She left the convent.
(10)She left the Long Skirt cult.
(11)She came into some money and could afford to toss her thrift store wardrobe.
Hmmm…
(1) She has no weight to lose! The word ‘beanpole’ was invented just for her.
(2) Is a possible. But in love with someone in the office methinks…
(3) It is. I did consider she might have put her Winter wardrobe away but she was wearing it way too early last season if that’s the case.
(4) As possible as (2) – but she’s being skinny with the goss if it’s true! Cow!
(5) Her demeanour suggests a shy reticence so this may not be that wide of the mark.
(6) I’ll check it out and get back to you. Ouch!
(7) Hmmm, no. Her gait was always unencumbered.
(8) Ahhh…. Maybe!
(9) I shall check out her religious leanings next week – even if only to eliminate this one.

(11) But wouldn’t long skirts cost more than short ones – there being more material in a longer one? Huh, huh, huh, huh?
Thanks Citronella and Ritergal (that’s not English, is it? And that’s rhetorical) for your thoughts. Next time I’m in a meeting with her I’ll take these notes with me and try to match up some possibilities.

She wants to have an affair with someone who might say she has ‘perfect pins’
Is she about a foot taller too? If so, then it may be not the skirt that has shortened, but rather that her legs have lengthened. With a condundrum like this one has to sometimes consider ALL possible explanations.
But, back in the real world, I’m going for 3) or 4) as dsitinct possibilities. I hope you’ll find out for us, Brennig. And that you don’t suffer too much bruising in the process.
The weather was quite nice and warm today and a long skirt is quite stuffy?
The Fashion has changed and long Skirts are no longer ‘with-it’. Maybe it’s time *you* had your quiff cut and lost the Drape jacket 🙂

Well, if you’ve ever bought any lingerie, you’ve probably noticed that “less fabric” doesn’t necessarily mean “lower cost”. So (11) is valid, I think.
