The cost of information security

In the last nine months in this country, the personal data of:

* 25,000,000 child benefit recipients has been lost
* 7,685 drivers in Northern Ireland has been lost
* 3,000,000 British drivers has been lost (in the US, bizarrely)
* 600,000 people has been stolen on a Royal Navy laptop
* 5,000 prison officers has been lost
* 94,000 offenders has been lost
* In addition to these events the Ministry of Defence has revealed that in the last four years 658 of their laptops have been stolen.

So here we are, in the Information Society with, seemingly, no Information Security at all.

Not much hope for any of us, as long as this kind of thing is allowed to persist.
