There’s something in the water. Or the air. Or the food. Or all three. Something, some… weird… thing. It has had an affect on us… me… us… whatever. Anyway, this thing. It’s had a life-changing effect. The lives of the four resident cats have been changed. The lives of the four resident humans have been changed. And the lives of the two resident dogs have been changed.
In a fit of what can only be described in polite circles as complete and utter lunacy, the size of the doggy herd has doubled. For over a week now, our family has grown to four spaniels when two nine-week old sibling puppies joined the gang.
In my… our… whatever… defence, we were only planning to increase the spanner collective by one, and we had the one picked out. But the runt of the litter looked so cute in all his under-developed scrawnyness that it was easy to offer him what we feel will be the best ever home.
We are still in a period of shock and adjustment, but the two puppers are settling in and causing havoc and mayhem (which, in retrospect, would have been good names for them!).
Anyway.
Four cats, four dogs, four humans. I think that’s where we should stop now. Probably.

You’re a madman! We had to re-home our last two cats in 2020 for (human) medical reasons and while it was hard to let go, we’ve been revelling in the freedom it has created. Two years later I still hesitate putting an important paper down on any surface before remembering it’s now OK. Except for 4 months after I moved into my first house, I’d lived with at least one cat from age 4 to 51. I still love cats, but I do not miss owning them one bit.
See, cats were always a convenience pet. You could go out to work all day and the cats just wouldn’t care. And that was the attraction of cats. Their independence. Let’s face it, cats only really care about being fed. But dogs? Dogs love you. They actually care about you. And because they care so much, it’s very easy to keep adding to the doggy family. We will give our dogs the very best lives they could ever have. And that’s another good reason to say yes to adding to the doggy family. We love them as much as they love us. 🙂
I’m with Allister: madness!
Havoc and Mayhem. Good names, I like that. Also sounds like one of those ITV detective shows.
Kemal Ataturk had an entire menagerie called Abdul.
Apparently.
I suppose we could call them both Abdul. That would be oh wait, they’re registered under Mavis and Pugsley with the microchip people…
