We are in a public house. We’ve come for tea. There is a dog at the next table. A collie. A very well behaved collie. We left all our dogs at home which, frankly, was a difficult but nevertheless correct decision. They’re currently chilling in front of the fire while Independence Day plays out on the TV.
I’m trying to decide between sticky toffee pudding, lemon meringue roulade, sticky toffee pudding, maltesers cheesecake or sticky toffee pudding. I have given the collie some dog treats because what self-respecting dog owner leaves the house without taking dog treats? Not this one, obviously. Now then, I’m going to redirect my mind to the weighty question of whether I’m going to have sticky toffee pudding or sticky toffee pudding…

What did you go for, in the end?
It might come as a surprise to you but eventually I went for the Rhubarb and Custard which – when it arrived – look uncannily like Sticky Toffee Pudding so rather than send it back to the kitchen I had that instead.
