Blogathon 23/25: Books

My world, in the last few years, has become dominated by books. Paperbacks and eBooks in about equal quantities. But when I make this sweeping statement I’m not considering dogs, obviously. Because 4x spaniels dominate my life more than books. It’s just that books have assumed a much larger and more significant part of my life, of late, than books previously occupied. Good, I’m glad I cleared that up.

Anyway.

I’m currently reading a lot of books in genres I wouldn’t normally hesitate to pick up (SciFi mostly), but I’m also spreading my net wider. In the last fortnight I’ve dipped into a couple of Fantasy, a pair of Biogs, and a Historical or two.

I’m picking most of these up on Kindle which is more portable and keeps me out of the robbing clutches of Waterstones but, simultaneously, pushes me further into the arms of sycophantic American hard-right billionaire. Gah!

I’m looking for alternate platforms to go shopping on and have discovered a couple for paperbacks, but eBooks alternatives seem to be evading me at the moment. I’m going to pop into Five Leaves bookshop in a few days to see if they have any suggestions for an independent provider of eBooks.

  1. I have thought similarly, but I don’t want to inconvenience myself just to stop Jeff getting a couple of dollars richer at my expense.
I downloaded a Sci-Fi novel to read on holiday. Having finished it much quicker than I thought I would, I was then able to use the hotel WiFi to download the sequel.
For me, that’s the glory of the Kindle.

  2. I am stuck with actual books, as I enjoy the feel of paper in my hands. We have an amazing local bookshop who are always happen to order tomes from my wish list.

It does mean holidays require a sizeable bag for reading material, whilst MrsB just pops her Kindle in her handbag.
