Just over a year ago the boss (Wing Commander Johnnie Walker, commanding officer of RAF Brüggen when I served under his command there), but latterly he was Air Marshal Sir John Robert Walker, KCB, CBE, AFC, FRAeS… checked out. After our front-line service, I later worked with Johnnie when he was Chief of Defence Intelligence and I was whatever I did for a living in a brother agency. On the flight-line, he was quite an engineer (I’m certain everyone who served in 14, 17, 20, and 31 Squadrons, and 431 MU will all remember the Walker Chaff Dispenser with a fond smile). In the intelligence community he had few peers.
Well, this morning sad news reaches me that Wing Commander Ian Hunter, MBE, BEM, has passed away. I shall raise a glass of lemonade in Ian’s name this evening.
