I was struggling to download a package that I have to edit – struggling, because my download speed was around the same levels as last night’s downgraded performance – when suddenly my download speed zoomed through the roof.
Is it funny that this miraculous speed improvement occurred just a few minutes before 8.30am?
Is it also funny that last night’s speed dive occurred in the early evening?
Am I being paranoid to suppose that someone, somewhere in BT’s domain ‘did something’ last night, and then went home? And someone else came in this morning and corrected the ‘something’ to put things back on track?
Because how else could you explain the sudden downgrade in performance last night, and the equally sudden upgrade in performance this morning?
Here’s the screenshot of what I’m now getting:

It really is enough to make you shit your pants in sheer frustration, and the trouble is, the customer service from all of the main providers is pretty much the same.
There is talk that an internet connection is fast becoming the 4th utility, and I strongly feel that the level of support should reflect this…. lots of people rely on the internet for their jobs for chrissake.
I am feeling your pain Bro’.!!
152k to 4MB – that’s quite a leap. Still not the 7 meg that you should be getting though. And at that time of the morning, I wouldn’t have contention ratios would be part of the problem.
Unfortunately, BT have you between a rock and a hard place because you can’t even threaten them with leaving – unless you want to pay silly money for satellite broadband.
Ha, you think you’ve got problems – at 3am this morning the WHOLE of the north coast of Scotland (from Kinlochbervie to Lybster) lost broadband and we’ve only just had it restored. Am currently writing ‘sorry your order is delayed’ emails to 20 customers.
Haha, blatently some bloke knocked off early, went to the pub and left the BT broadband button on ‘crap’.
A rock and a hard place indeed, young Masher. And Annie’s right too, I can’t ‘do’ much without a broadband connection. And Gumpher’s ‘shit your pants in frustration’ made me laugh, so silver cloud and all that.
While I didn’t have Caroline’s issue, I think Jo is bang on; it really felt as if some bright spark ‘did something’ that was corrected the following morning.
