What would you do if an American TV company asked you to work on a script (as a junior) for them during the US scriptwriters strike?
A script for an edition of a well-known talk show which will be broadcast after the Oscars have been announced on 24th February?
Personally, I’d jump at the chance. While it may be right to sympathise with the writers (as I do) their unions have little, if anything, to do with us. Indeed, even though it’s possible for a Brit to join the WGA, it would be illegal under American law for them to strike.
I’d say ‘No.’
Mya x
Definately do it, you have to ask yourself, if the boot was on the other foot and it was the British scripwriters on srike, do you think an American would say no? Plus it could seriously help boost and give experience to the hypothetical british writer.
Bite their arm off, and while you’re at it, make sure that it’s beautifully cooked with a heavily reduced red wine sauce and has an interesting plate of well dressed salad to go with it.
Its not your issue or your problem. Sounds like a fabbo opportunity. Lick it like a lollipop.
Ooh…I think go for it too…but then there’s the moral dilemma…and what if you want to work in the US at a later date?
I not a big fan of striking anyway…if you’re not happy with your pay change jobs – don’t sign a contract agreeing to a set salary within a set payscale and then hold the company to ransom when it doesn’t change.
But then, who am I to talk?
Bite their hand off, but make sure that the contract includes sufficient remuneration for web distribution of the work. Not just the broadcast and repeat fees 😉
