Weekend ending

Yesterday (Saturday) kicked off with an early morning podcast. The first couple of hundred emails indicate that it went very well – especially now that we’ve finally got the levels sorted out (with help from a pop filter).

Soon after the podcast was recorded our Guest from Worcestershire arrived. As Soph and I were going to a gig in Oxford in the evening, we spent the entire day in the local area.

Lunch was in Burford which, as well as feeding us, gave us so much opportunity for people watching that our cup did indeed runneth over.

As did several dozen cleavages, because breasts were muchly on public display. We ate al fresco and some of the sights we saw tottering up the hill that is Burford’s ‘main road’ almost put me off my jacket potato. Almost.

There were several dozen instances of spray-on denim jeans which were close to being criminal. Or if they weren’t spray on, they must have been causing the wearer great pain.

And the RSPCA is undoubtedly still out looking for the three-legged camel in the area because I saw one young girl (much too young girl!) with a camel-toe so pronounced, and so… on display that it actually made me feel unwell.

The thing about Burford is that the village is too pretty. It’s far too much of an iconic Cotswold village. And as a result us locals can’t even get around safely without treading on several dozen tourists.

But the food was good, the people-watching almost made me choke and the weather was absolutely brilliant.

The early evening saw us gigging at Zodiac at the Oxford Carling Academy. The first band on was The Great Eskimo Hoax, second up was This Town Needs Guns and third on stage was Jonquil; All of them Oxford bands (though The Great Eskimo Hoax MySpace website says they hail from Bewdley, bizarrely).

The house was packed (full-on gig reviewร‚ย here) but it was a very interesting evening. Which ended late. With both of us very hungry. But looking at the scenes of chaos and destruction in a few of the un-curtained the student flats as we walked back to the bus stop almost put us both off food for life.

Today (Sunday) Soph went up to Brum to see friends while I spent the morning going through podcast emails.

This afternoon I went up to the yard. Vin’s had a clip and looks very smart! We went for a hack and then schooled lightly in the 20×60 jumping arena (but only schooled flatwork, I need him to learn to stay calm when working around fences).

After the riding (and more grooming) there followed carrots and yet more grooming. And snuggling. You’re never too big to snuggle a horse. Especially if he’s 16.2hh.

In fact, that could be my new mantra.

And now it’s Sunday evening. I picked Soph up from Oxford train station and we’re all snugly in the house for the night. It’s time for another shower and then an early night with an episode or two of Angel.

So I’ve shown you mine. Now it’s your turn to show me yours. How was your weekend?

  1. My weekend was drunken chaos on Friday night, falling asleep on the sofa by 9.30 on a Saturday evening, then finding out a local had died in a drunk driving accident.

    Another normal weekend for me.

  2. Rather less exciting than yours. Friday night was spent drinking an elegant combination of vodka & tonic, jagermeisters and the spare pint that someone had accidentally bought at the bar. Saturday was spent regretting the pint and that last jagermeister. Sunday was spent wrestling with furniture and swearing as I broke the chest of drawers and the dog trod on my heap of clothing.

  3. Vicola… that elegant combination of V&T… Mmmm… ๐Ÿ™‚ But really, you should give up with the furniture wrestling. It’s always going to win. It’s the weight advantage you know. ๐Ÿ™‚
